   TYPES OF DIET.

      1. Full liquid diet.

            * This type of diet used for patients who feel difficulty

               in chewing and eat solid food items.

            * Full fluids foods are

                            * Water.

                            * Vegetable soups.

                            * Fruit juices.

                            * Honey and syrups.

                            * Plain ice cream.

                            * Custard.

                            * Pudding.

     Pureed diet.

             * It include cooked foods which has been put through a blender or sieve.

             * This diet suggested for patient after abdominal surgeries (Bariatric surgery.)

             * Pureed diet foods are

                             * Puree salads.

                             * Strained cream soups.

                             * Scrambled eggs.

                             * Mashed cheese.

                             * Applesauce.

     Dysphasia diet.

        * This type of food used for patient with difficulty in swallowing and chewing.

          * Dysphasia diet foods are

                            * Soft cooked vegetables.

                            * Cooked peas.

                            * Noodles and soups.

                            * Custards.

                            * Juice.

     Restricted modified diet.

           * It is therapeutic diet with controlled intake of certain foods.

             as a part of medical treatment.

           * Foods in restricive mordified diet include

                     * Controlled use of carbohydrate foods like grains,starchy

                        vegetables,fruits.

                     * Low fat and cholesterol foods.

                     * Low sodium foods.

     Gastric bypass diet.

          * This type diet used for patient after gastric bypass surgery.

          * It include liquid foods,pureed foods,soft foods,solid foods etc.

          * Example

                       * Soft scrambled eggs.

                       * Cooked cereal.

                       * Cooked vegetables and fruits.

Parenteral nutrition.

        Description.

               * It is the intravenous administration of nutrients through a venous acess

                 device into the intravascular fluid of a patient who unable to take food through

                 gastrointestinal tract.

        Indications.

             * To maintain nutritional status of a patient with gastrointestinal problem.

             * In the case patient after gastric bypass unable to take food orally.

     Administration.

            * Assess the patients need of parenteral nutrition by a nutritional

              assessment.

            * Check the doctors order for flow rate and method of administration.

            * Explain the procedure to the patient and take informed consent.

            * Parenteral nutrition bag should be remove from refrigerator 1 hour

               before procedure to prevent vasospasm during administration.

            * Check the fluid for any changes in constitution or cloudiness.

            * After handwashing use aseptic techniques to attach tubings with filter

              to attach parenteral nutrition bag and purge out air.

            * After closing all clamps on new tubing insert tubing into volume control

           infuser.

            * Clean the patients venous access device(VAD) insertion site and insert

               VAD then connect tubing to hub of VAD .

            * After secure connection open all clamps and regullate flow through volume

              control infuser.

            * Monitor the administration hourly and record it in nurses record.

3.Complications related to tube feeding.

            * Diarrhoea.

            * Constipation.

            * Lipid intolerance.

            * Electrolyte imbalances.

            * Hepatic dysfunction.

            * Hypervolemia.

            * Hyperglycemia.

4. Components of a healthy diet.

              * Carbohydrates.

              * Proteins.

              * Unsaturated fats.

              * Vitamins.

              * Minerals.

              * Water.
