2. The classification of replacement can be done:

# oral route

# parenteral route

Indications:

# hypokalemia

# digoxin toxicity related arrhythmia

# inducing fetal demise

#trearment of metabolic alkalosis

Side effects:

# gastrointestinal upset: ulceration, perforation, diarrhea,nausea vomiting

# local irritation at IV site

# arrhythmias

# hyperkalemia

# metabolic acidosis

Nursing implications:

Assessment:

# monitor vital signs for digoxin toxicity

# monitor the vital signs for hypotension and rapid pulse

# never IV push or bolus

Teaching

# advice the patient to take liquid potassium in juice

# not to crush tablets

# educate to take with meals.
