Answer #1

The main factors that stimulate the settlement in West are:

-- The Homestead Act, 1862 granted homesteaders to claim 160 acres of free land if they worked and lived on it for five years. The offer of free land was found attractive to those who could have never afforded a farm back home

-- In 1862 President Abraham Lincoln signed Pacific Railway Act. It provided support by government for the building of first railroad for connecting the east and west coasts of the America with the assistance of few of the huge government subsidies ever granted.

-- A massive sales campaign was launched by companies by offering a settlement package that consisted temporary hotel accommodation until the people had built their own home; cheap, safe, and speedy journey to west; and other benefits such as churches, schools, and imposing no taxes for a period of five years
