While planning for a new unit, FTE staff to be calculated based on total hours of patient care. The staffing pattern can be developed based on the number of beds in the psychiatric unit, average patient census, and average hours of daily care. staff patterns should meet the needs of mental health patients and to fulfill primary health services. Estimate the average mental health providers, average licensed mental health providers needed. Estimate the number of other mental staff based on the number of likely services expecting within a year.
