Examples of the anticoagulant drugs are: Heparin, Warfarin etc. As thrombin is the major factor which is responsible for blood clots, hence these drugs act by inactivating thrombin which stops the formation of fibrin and prevents blood clotting. These drugs are used to treat blood clots that have formed abnormally inside the blood vessels. The side effects include blood in the urination, bleeding gums, severe back pain etc.
