Answer #1

For evaluation of the treatment plan of myxedema, she is monitored for factors like heart rate changes, changes in cognition, and level of hypoglycemia. The diagnosis was made based on symptoms like hypothermia, decreased respirations, hypotension, and hypoglycemia. Although TSH and T4 levels are checked to confirm the diagnosis, the initial diagnosis is based on a physical exam. Other symptoms checked for myxedema crisis from severe hypothyroidism include dry skin, sparse hair, swelling of face and legs, goiter, thyroidectomy scar, and confusion. Post-discharge factors to be monitored include thyroid hormone levels; fatigue; sweating, palpitations, weight; swelling of hands, face, or feet; irregular heartbeat; and confusion. A healthy lifestyle should be followed with a low-calorie high-fiber diet and exercise. Thyroid hormone has a significant role in cell metabolism, low levels can slow down metabolism and affect oxygen use in the body. This will have a negative impact on all body systems and processes.
