Prodromal syndrome refers to a group of signs and symptoms which can be seen in a client who is at risk of getting a mental illness even before its diagnosis.

The significance of it to a mental health nurse when working with potentially violent clients are

  • Can be helpful inbestly treatment and recovery
  • Can prevent physical harm (to patient and self)
  • To ensure the area is of full safety
  • A client who behaves abnormally like talking harshly, rapidity without rationale,exhibiting angerness, unwilling to participate in activity, being vague when asked for something,sleeplessness, extreme enthusiastic behaviour are some of the signs of prodromal syndrome.A nurse should be aware of these symptoms to ensure safety
