Mental health basically refers to cognitive, behavioral and
emotional well-being. It is all about how we think behave and act.
This also sometimes means absence of a mental illness or
disorder.
According to WHO, mental health just not refers to absence of
mental disorder but more. Mental health can affect daily life ,
relationships and even physical health. It is important to take
care of your mental health to cope up in the face of life's
adversities. Your mental health can be influenced by a variety of
factors, including life events and even your genetics. Strategies
that can help you establish a good mental health that is- Keeping a
positive attitude, Helping other people, Getting enough sleep,
staying physically active and many more.
Alternative perspective of healthy and normal functioning is
psychodynamic which seems strange to me. It says that human
functioning is based upon the interaction of drives and forces
within the person, particularly unconscious. According to Freud a
person's mental health is affected when ther is a clash between all
the forces that is Id, ego and superego because all three strive
for different goals. Also if the person is fixated at any stage ,
he might develop an abnormality in future. According to Freud it is
important to bring the unconscious material into consciousness to
treat the person. Until and unless, the person resolve these
conflicts , it might lead to abnormal behavior. Psychodynamics has
always been criticized for reasons but undoubtedly has got a huge
revolution in the field of psychology
