In today's information technology, a protocol is the special set of rules that end points in a telecommunication connection use when they communicate. Protocols specify interactions between the communicating entities.Protocols are basically needed because it's important for the receiver to UNDRSTAND the sender.

Communication protocols are formal descriptions of digital message formats and rules.

Two different reasons why a community organisation might implement communication protocols are :-

- They are required to exchange messages in or between computing systems and are required in telecommunications. - Communications protocols cover authentication, error detection and correction, and signaling.

# Benefits of having a communication protocol :-

- will help in the proper flow of message from one to another

- help to detect errors

- helps in the correction of messages

- it also helps to cover authentication

- improper channel of communication

- communication errors

- no authentication
