Hig cholesterol refers to elevation of the cholesterol level beyond the normal range.This is termed to be hyperlipidemia

The problem is highly found among elderly population, diabetic individual, cardiovascular disease

Hyperlipidemia is a hereditary disease which can run in a family.

The medication which is taken for this condition is antihyperlipdemic drugs.The most common group of drugs are statin (eg.,Atorvastatin)

Name:Atorvastatin (Lipitor)

Dosage: 10 mg to 20 mg for adults

Frequency:once a day ,usually at bed time

The cardiac condition are generally managed with

• Regular exercise
• Diet control (low fat ,low salt diet)
• Medication
• Regular follow up and screening

The education which can be provided are

• To follow a low fat diet , avoid alcohol beverage, no deeply fried foods preserved foods, street foods,avoid meat etc.,
• A brisk walk of half an hour a day
• Encourage to take fruits ,vegetables, pulses ,grains ,sprouts in diet
• Avoid smoking
• Take medication as prescribed
• Do not overdose or underdose
