One of the major public health issue not only Texas, but globally facing a threat to public is Diabetes Mellitus. It is a chronic disease caused by ineffectiveness of the insulin production by the pancreas. Because of the inability to produce adequate insulin, it is a life-long disability disease. The person with diabetes should have adequate glycemic control. On the otherhand, if the persons blood sugar is not under control, the disease related complications and other co-morbidities in individual leads to poor quality of life.

CAUSES:The main cause of this disease is

a) Lack of physical exercise.

Individual with lack of physical exercise are more prone to have diabetes because of obesity and overweight. These extra weight may cause insulin resistance which leads to develop diabetes type 2 in humans.

b) Family history

c) Obesity

d) Poor or unhealthy diet.

TREATMENT PLAN: There is no medication to cure individual from diabetes. The main treatment plan for people with diabetes is say no to sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet. Other than these, medications can help to manage the blood glucose level in people with diabetes. By consuming medications at proper time with healthy diet and improvement in physical exercise one can increase the insulin production by controlling the blood glucose level.

PREVENTION:

a) Prevention can be done by encouraging to eat healthy diets like low fat and nutrient rich diet which includes cereals, fruits and green leafy vegetables, diary products and protein rich content foods. Moreover, limit the intake of sugar and beverages.

b) Proper exercise and controlled diet plan can also help to reduce overweight and obesity which is a major contribution to diabetes.

c) By proper physical exercise all body organs functions effectively and it also reduces the intake of medications of other diseases which is also a cause of diabetes.
