A new concept for some organizations is to allow nurses to bring in their own devices known as bring your own device (BYOD) to use at work . What are some of the security issues you might encounter if this were allowed? How would you address these issues? How is this issue addressed in your practice setting? (Nursing practice and Nursing education).

Answer :

Bring your own devices also known as bring your own technology. (BYOT).

it is defined as the employees can bring their own devices like cellphones, laptops and tablets, USB ect to their working places , and use their technology instead of using company or hospital devices or technology or instruments.

For example by using some mobile apps they can work effectively and productivity may increases.

Like through some mobile apps they can send images to the doctors and the doctors can advice treatment from far place, so this we can provide care to client with out time waste.

Security issues like :

1. These will be a chance of leakage of data and disclosure to one to another.

2. Some times physical loss or theft of devices may taken place due to that there is a loss of total information related to client.

3. They can processed on personal devices for their personal works, due to that quality also decreases in the work.

4. If the employees have any family members or relatives, he can tell or disclosures the information to them like their recards and reports.

5. Some times loss of visibility in the organization because the employees can carry their devices with them only.

6. Difficult to maintain privacy and confidentiality and to protect.

I can address this issue like I will allow their own devices, but I won't allow to their personal use while in duty timings.

I will keep a security passwords, which they can use in the institution only, and I can set and link up these password to the organizational devices.

So that they can open the organizational information in the institute only.

So we can protect our data.

Even though they will use these information outside without authorization through link up we can see in the institute and we can take disciplinary actions, to wards them.
