Answer #1

A baby born before 37 weeks of gestation is termed as premature.

When a new born baby with weight 2,499 g or less regardless of gestational age is termed as low birth weight.

An emphasis on high technology medical care and life saving techniques will not reduce the rate of preterm and low birth weight infants in the United States . Stress is one of the main cause of preterm babies in developed countries including  risky health behaviors, such as smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol or taking street drugs. Long lasting stress may weaken the immune system. High levels of stress that continue for a long time may cause serious health issues like hypertension and heart disease. When pregnant, these stress can increase the chances of having a premature baby (or a low-birthweight baby. Babies born premature or too small are at increased risk for health problems.

So eventhough high medical care is available , the rate of preterm and low birth weight infants in United States donot reduce.
