Significance of Precision Medicine on personalizing cancer treatments

Precision Medicine is a patient care approach in which the treatment options are identified and selected according to the genetic understanding of the disease.

Personalized cancer therapy involves prediction of prognosis of a patient based on certain genetic factors and patient characteristics and use them to establish an individualized therapy. That means the approach of precision medicine is used in cancer treatment to get an optimum prognosis. The tumor biomarkers like DNA, RNA, protein and metabolic profiles have significant importance in response to therapy. Moreover, individual genetic charecteristics also have influence in drug response. That means even two patients are diagnosed with same type of cancer, their treatment options will be different due to different genetic characters of the cancer and the individual.

The significance of Precision Medicine  in personalizing cancer treatment is identifying genetic characteristics of the cancer an help to decide the best treatment approach for each individual to get a better and speedy prognosis.
