Acute/transient pain:
It is a type of pain lasts less than 3months, it can be mild and
last for a moment
Example: Sprained ankle, sports injury caused by damage to soft
tissue
Chronic/ persistent noncancer pain:
It is a type of pain lasts longer than 6 months and associated with
long-term illness. chronic noncancer pain extends for the rest of
life. it causes distress and disability
Example: Osteoarthritis, neuropathic pain which affected the bones
and other organs.
Cancer pain:
It is a type of pain caused by the tumor that presses the bone and
other organs in the body.
Example: Numbness and tingling sensation on the hands and feet due
to chemotherapy
Inferred pathological pain:
Pain due to innocuous stimuli response to acute pain due to
dysfunctional neuronal activity. pain caused by injury to the
bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.
Example: Neuropathic pain and musculoskeletal pain
Idiopathic pain:
Idiopathic pain is a long term or chronic pain last for more than 6
months, there is no particular cause for this pain
Example: Temporomandibular joint disease, irritable bowel syndrome,
fibromyalgia syndrome.
