Describe the complications of pancreatitis hemorrhage, hypovolemic shock, circulatory collapse, and peritonitis
Explain the relationship between pancreatitis and the complication
Explain what causes the complication
PANCREATITIS
pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas. in acute pancreatitis the complications are absent but in severe acute pancreatitis can develop complications.
Pseudocysts
pseudocysts are sac of fluid, developed on the surface of the pancreas in acute pancreatitis. sometimes it becomes infected and needs to be drained.
Pancreatic necrosis.
when pancreas loses its blood supply, the tissue of the pancreas become necrotised. infection may develop due to necrosis and later sepsis. later leads to organ failure.
Chronic pancreatitis
if acute pancreatitis left untreated, it will permanently damage pancreas and leads to chronic pancreatitis.
HAEMORRHAGE
severe or chronic haemorrhage become fatal.
organ failure.
chronic haemorrhage reduces blood supply to vital organs, thus may lead to organ failure.
seizures and coma
Seizure may occur as a result of the reduction of blood supply to the brain. Also, chronic cyanosis of brain cells leads to coma.
HYPOVOLEMIC SHOCK
Due to severe blood or fluid loss pumping of blood will disrupt and thus leads to organ damage due to lack of blood supply.
kidney damage
due to decreased renal blood flow, renal failure occurs
brain damage
due to decreased pumping of blood, blood supply to the brain also disrupts causes tissue damage as a result seizure and coma occurs.
gangrene of extremities.
decreased blood volume in the body leads to vasoconstriction in the extremities for increasing blood supply to vital organs prolonged disruption of blood supply results in cyanosis, necrosis and later gangrene.
heart attack
severe blood loss causes a decrease in the volume of pumping blood from the heart. it also leads to the decreased blood supply to the myocardium so, myocardial infraction occurs.
