Its a Latin origin, the word imago means image and the word dei means God. It say that in the beginning, the first human man Adam was created same as the image of god and other than human beings all living creature is not made according to the image of god.
Actually god doesn't bear any physical image so in the bible the image refers to god's attribute such as love, holiness, righteousness, etc..So like as God, man was created with this attributes and the expression. That's why christian considering themselves as a holy and a honorable one as like God. But they are not taking the Godhead as themselves.
This concept is very important to understand by all health care worker while treating the patient with this kind of belief. As a health care provider you should treat them not like a ordinary human being But treating them with more respect and honor. Because they are considering themselves equal to God and you should admit and respect their believes.
