The strategic planning process has four phases and will conclude in April 2016. The first phase that began in October 2015 consisted of planning research that included interviews, stakeholder surveys, external peer benchmarks or best practice assessments, and environmental assessments that captured internal and external trends.

The second phase that begins in early January 2016 consists of defining the global direction of the School. This process includes developing measurable goals, identifying strategic issues and determining working group assignments.

The third phase that begins in February 2016 consists of developing the strategic direction of the School. This process includes several school-wide town hall sessions to help the planning team formulate the “—roadmap –” to achieve the visions and goals.

The final phase that begins in late March and early April 2016 consists of finalizing and implementing the strategic plan. This process includes finalizing the strategic framework – including the vision, goals and strategies –, as well as developing priorities for implementation, identifying strategy champions, identifying goal metrics and disseminating the plan to the School community.

Who is involved in the planning process?

This planning process involves everyone! The strategic planning process will engage a variety of stakeholders including faculty, staff, students and alumni. Leading the School through this process are consultants at AMC Strategies, LLC. The California-based firm has a considerable amount of experience working with academic health systems and schools.

In order to help this process along, a Steering Committee was organized that includes faculty, staff and students.

However, the voices of the steering committee members aren’t the only ones that will be heard throughout this process. Through interviews, focus groups, surveys and town halls, the DUSON community at large will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the process as well as the future of the School.

Where can I find additional information?

The School’s strategic planning process is a transparent process. Therefore, a 2015-2016 Strategic Planning Process webpage has been developed with all of the information regarding each phase.

To show a commitment to hearing the voices of the community at large, a feedback section has been developed that allows the Strategic Planning Steering Committee and the consultants at AMC to receive anonymous messages.

How do I get involved?

For the strategic planning process to be beneficial, active engagement is crucial.

The School’s previous and current successes and award winning innovations are a result of the ideas formulated, cultivated and implemented by the members of the DUSON community. And it will be the input and feedback of this same group of individuals that will help the School continue its successful work.

During each phase, faculty, staff, students and alumni will be invited to participate in the process through various methods. Everyone is strongly encouraged to participate and help inspire and shape the future of one of the best nursing schools in the nation.
