Your facility is adopting an electronic health record. Some patients are concerned about their privacy as they have heard and read of how medical facilities are being hacked for medical information. Several have said they do not want their health information “floating on the Internet.”
What would you say to alleviate the patients' concerns about their medical records being safe and not being available on the Internet? What are some disadvantages with regard to confidentiality associated with electronic health records?
It is true that nobody wants to float there personal information on internet. But other side is that it is very necessary to store patient information in electronic way as it is one of the biggest tool in research and analysis.
To win confidence of patient I'll do following things
1. Educate patient about important of records in human beings.
2. Trained patient how the system exactly work.
3. System of electronic health is well secured like password policy and privileged groups.
Most senior and trusted person should have all authority to assign privileged group. Password must be individual and not of sharing ones.
Control of hospital authority should be more on electronic records e.g. audit trail they have to check for everyday for any misuse and deletion or download.
Disadvantage
1. Deletion or omition of data if it is not secured
2. If security is weak then chanses of to loose data
3. Personal have shortage of use to their level.
