Research can play an extremely important role in both not-for-profit and public sector organizations in improving the overall efficiency. Research entails a lot of activities including collection of data, arranging the data and putting that up in a systematic form, critically analyzing various aspects. Hence, it is equally important for both not-for-profit and public sector organizations.
Not-for-profit Organizations:
Not-for-profit organizations serve the public sector indirectly by taking care of certain aspects that the public sector is not directly able to. Hence, they need research to better and improve themselves. Research can help in quality improvement, monitoring, and evaluation. The various roles that research plays in a not-for-profit involve strategic planning and program implementation. Strategic planning involves organizational assessment, needs assessment, organizational planning and program planning. Then comes the step including fundraising, financial management, facility planning, governance/leadership and at the end comes the program implementation. The steps before implementation involve a lot of planning and this is where role of research comes in. Research can help in better planning of allocation of the organizational resources and help the organization to become better.
Public Sector Organizations:
Research helps the public sector organizations to be updated about the most recent trends in the market and enables them to become technology friendly by imparting the latest technological advancements in the industry. Research can help the public sector officials to devise cost-effective strategies for analyzing the expenditure related aspects. It also helps the public sector by providing global expertise in public and commercial markets. Overall, it helps in reducing cost and time.
