What characteristics would lead a provider to suspect domestic violence, child abuse, or elder abuse is taking place within a family? Discuss your facility's procedure for reporting these types of abuse.

A big issue in health care now, is how to identify an individual who is a victim of human trafficketing. Does your facility or agency provide training in this?   Do you have a protocol to follow if you identify a victim of this?

Domestic violence begins with threats or verbal or physical minor assaults and the victims attempt to comply with the requests of the abuser.The victims feel trapped,dependent,helpless and powerless.They may become de[pressed as they are trapped in the abusers power and control cycle.As victims self-esteem becomes diminished with chronic abuse ,they may blame themselves for the violence and be unble to see a way out of the situation.

Our facilitiy has asked to report suspected or actual cases of child abuse or abuse of an older adult to appropriate authorities and has provided certain interventions to follow if such a case is observed.it includes

  • Assessing for evidence of physical injuries.
  • Ensuring privacy and confidentialty during the procedure.
  • Assisting the victim to develop self-protective and other problem-solving abilities.
  • Provide support and assistance in coping with contact ing the legal system.
  • Assisting in resolving family dysfunction with prescribed therapies.
  • Assist the family to identify an acess to community and personal resources.
  • Maintenance of accurate and thorough medical health records
