QUANTITATIVE VS QUALITATIVE RESEARCH:

• In the quantitative data, the variables are measured and quantified where as in qualitative research the variables are not quantified.
• QUANTITATIVE: Numerical or based on numbers. e.g.Height in cm, weight in kg.
• QUALITATIVE: Non numerical, based on nominal or ordinal scale. e.g. Gender (Male/Female), religion (Hindu/Muslim)
• The qualitative research based on the opinions and experiences, the quantitative research based on the numbers.

In the qualitative data, the questions asked to the samples are mainly open ended questions, in the quantitative research the questions asked to the samples are closed ended questions.

• The quantitative data is used in the work place like taking census in the ward set up, measuring vital signs for the clients in the hospital.
• In the quantitative research the sample size is large and it is generalized to cover the entire population.
• In the qualitative research the sample size is small and it is non representative to the entire population.
• The qualitative research methodology used in the one on one interview, record keeping, ethnographic research and the case study research.
• The quantitative research is a structured interview and it is used in surveys and experiments.
• The quantitative research is a unstructured interview and it is used in interviews, focus groups and observations.
