Evista (raloxifene hydrochloride) is an estrogen agonist/antagonist used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Evista is also used to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis or who are otherwise at risk of invasive breast cancer.

Generic name: Raloxifene

ACTION:Raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) and hence is a mixed agonist and antagonist of the estrogen receptor (ER) in different tissues. It has estrogenic activity in some tissues, such as bone and the liver, and antiestrogenic activity in other tissues, such as the breasts and uterus.

THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS:Evista (raloxifene hydrochloride) is an estrogen agonist/antagonist used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Evista is also used to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis or who are otherwise at risk of invasive breast cancer.

The most common side effects of EVISTA are hot flashes, leg cramps, swelling of the feet, 104 ankles, and legs, flu syndrome, joint pain, and sweating. Hot flashes are more common during 105 the first 6 months after starting treatment.

DOSE:The recommended dosage is one 60 mg EVISTA (raloxifene hydrochloride tablets) tablet daily, which may be administered any time of day without regard to meals

Megestrol acetate, sold under the brand name Megace among others, is a progestin medication which is used mainly as an appetite stimulant to treat wasting syndromes such as cachexia. It is also used to treat breast cancer and endometrial cancer, and has been used in birth control.

Megace or other name Megestrol Acetate when referring to the generic drug name Megestrol. Drug type: Megace is a hormone therapy. This medication is classified as a "progesterone."

MEGACE Oral Suspension is indicated for the treatment of anorexia, cachexia, or an unexplained, significant weight loss in patients with a diagnosis of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The recommended adult initial dosage of MEGACE Oral Suspension is 800 mg/day (20 mL/day).

  • Amenorrhea, breakthrough bleeding, change in menstrual flow, hot sweats, impotence, spotting
  • Diarrhea, flatulence, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, weight gain

  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT),Pulmonary embolism.Thrombophlebitis, anemia,Adrenal insufficiency

Mechanism of Action: Megestrolshares the properties of the progestins. The drug induces endometrial secretory changes, increases basal body temperature, inhibits pituitary function, and precipitates bleeding when estrogen is present.
