Answer #1

15. Given data

Total dose of insulin = 100 units/ 250 mL

Total volume of mixture = 250 m L

Thus 1 m L bag mixture contains 100 / 250 = 0.4units of insulin (Stock strength)

Dose to be administered (Desired dose) = 10 units / hr

Formula for Amount of solution to be given = ( Desired dose \small \div Stock strength ) x stock volume

= (10 \small \div 0.4) x 1

= 25 m L / hr

a. Thus the answer is, The rate of infusion is 25 m L / hr

Volume to be infused = 250 mL

Rate of infusion is 25m L / Hr

The total hours of infusion to be calculated, let us take it as "x"

Electronic flow rate formula is ( Volume in mL \small \div Time in hours ) = flow rate in mL / hr

Thus, 250 \small \div x = 25

25x = 250

x = 250 \small \div 25

= 10 hours

b. Thus the answer is10 hours

16. Given data

Amount of heparin ordered( Desired dose) = 1500 units

Total dose of heparin = 25000 unit

Total volume of mixture = 500 mL

so 1 mL = 25000 / 500 = 50 unit of heparin (Dose in hand)

The formula for dose calculation is ( Desired dose / Dose in hand) x volume of drug = dose to be administered

thus, (1500 / 50) x 1 mL = 30 mL / hr

Thus the answer is 30 m L / hr

17. Given data

Total amount of digoxin to be administered ( desired dose )= 0.75 mg

Concentration of drug (Dose in hand) = 0.1 mg / m L

The formula for dose calculation is ( Desired dose / Dose in hand) x volume of drug = dose to be administered

Thus, (0.75 mg / 0.1 mg) x 1 m L = 7.5 m L

a. Total number of m L to be administered is 7.5 mL

b.

Amount of drug administered in 5 minutes = 7.5 m L

so Amount of drug will be administered in one minute = 7.5 / 5 = 1.5 m L

1 Minute = 60 seconds

1.5 mL in 60 seconds

'x' m L in 30 seconds

Thus,( 1.5 x 30) / 60 = .75 m L

Thus the amount of mL push in 30 seconds is 0.75 mL

c.

Number of seconds needed to push 1 m L of solution = 1m L x 60 seconds / 1.5 mL = 40 seconds

Thus the answer is 40 seconds
