Discuss the three categories of Medicaid: categorically needy, medically needy, and special groups. Explain and provide an example of how there might be individuals that benefit from these programs while others that are in need might not qualify?
Three categories of medicaid are:
1) CATEGORICALLY NEEDY: Most of the needy population comes under this category of medicaid. This includes infants, children, disabled and elderly population. Low income population comes under this medicaid, it provides medical aid to the needy population.
2) MEDICALLY NEEDY: medically Needy is a programmes in which the
expenses of the services provided to the patient is covered by this
medicaid programme. One should enroll himself in this programme to
get the benefits. Most of the needy population is taking advantage
of medicaid.
3) SPECIAL GROUPS: this medicaid programme is for the people whose
income is below federal poverty level. This is also for the people
whose resources are low according to SSI. Some other special groups
are also included in this category. Medical expenses are paid for
the people who come under this category. Disabled people can also
take advantage of this medicaid but their income should meet the
SSI demand
Based on income and size of family medicaid is applied. Low cost services or free services are provided by the medicaid. Medicaid provides medical insurance to families of low income population such as disabled, pregnant women, children and elderly. People whose income is more than the stated income in the SSI cannot get medicaid services.
