Impaired Gas Exchange :-
Related content :-
- Impaired Gas Exchange occurs when the diffusion of gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide become impaired due to damaged or some pathological conditions at alveolar- capillary membrane.
- Infective Ventilation.
- Reduced Capacity for gas transportation.
- Inadequate perfusion.
Underlying Principles:-
- Impaired Gas Exchange is due to excessive smoking as it demages the alveolar - capillary membrane .
- It is also due to some of chronic medical conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ( COPD) , Cystic fibrosis, Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome ( ARDS).
- Injury to chest can also demage the lungs.
- Overdose of drugs or alcohol can also impaired flow of oxygen in and carbon dioxide out of the lung.
Nursing Interventions:-
- Head of the patient's bed should be elevated as it allows increased thoracic capacity and lung expansion.
- Maintain Oxygen administed device to maintain oxygen saturation at 90% or greater.
- Mechanical Ventilation provides supportive care to maintain adequate oxygenation and Ventilation.
- Medicines should be administered at right time as prescribed by doctor.
