Ans) A Penrose drain is a soft, flexible rubber tube used as a surgical drain, to prevent the buildup of fluid in a surgical site. The Penrose drain is named for American gynecologist Charles Bingham Penrose (1862–1925).
- A Penrose drain is a soft, flat, flexible tube made of latex. It lets blood and other fluids move out of the area of your surgery. This keeps fluid from collecting under your incision (surgical cut) and causing infection. Some blood and fluid will flow out of your drain onto a dressing (gauze bandage) around it
- You will need to clean the area around your incision with soap
and water.
Clean your hands.
Carefully remove your dressing.
Look at and feel your skin around where the drain is
inserted.
Clean your hands again.
Use the wash cloth, soap, and water to clean the skin around and
under your Penrose drain.
A Jackson-Pratt drain is a closed-suction medical device that is commonly used as a post-operative drain for collecting bodily fluids from surgical sites. The device consists of an internal drain connected to a grenade-shaped bulb via plastic tubing.
- The drain should be emptied as often as possible so that the bulb can be compressed fully to maintain suction. In general, this is usually done every four to six hours the first few days until the amount decreases. The drain should remain in place until your doctor tells you it is okay to be removed.
A Hemovac drain is used to remove fluids that build up in an area of your body after surgery. The Hemovac drain is a circular device connected to a tube. One end of the tube is placed inside you during surgery. The other end comes out through a small cut in your skin, called the drain site.
Empty the drain when it is half full or every 4 to 8
hours:
Wash your hands with soap and water.
Remove the plug from the top of the drain.
Pour the fluid into a measuring cup.
Clean the plug with an alcohol swab or a cotton ball dipped in
rubbing alcohol.
Squeeze the drain flat and put the plug back in.
Wound vac
- Vacuum-assisted closure of a wound is a type of therapy to help wounds heal. It's also known as wound VAC. During the treatment, a device decreases air pressure on the wound. A wound VAC also helps pull the edges of the wound together.
- Wound Care
The suction should not be off for longer than 2 hours daily. If the
VAC suction is off for more than 2 hours, we must remove the VAC
and cover the wound with a wet to dry gauze dressing. The VAC
dressing will be changed every 48-72 hours, unless otherwise
ordered by your doctor.

How would you characterize the central problem of the US health care system? Lack of a centralized and coordinated system, which reduces efficiency of the administration and services. The large budget of the IHS is a drain upon federal funds, which could be better spent upon Medicaid. Each state organizes its own health care system, so that if a state is bankrupt, it cannot offer services. States must fund Medicare and Medicaid expenses, so that the federal system will work....

Why would a firm care about the elasticity of the good it sells? Think about how elasticity affects the firm's behavior when it wants to increase total revenue. Why might a good be perfectly inelastic? Give an example of a good that is perfectly inelastic.
