Describe any two harmful, short-term and two harmful, long-term (chronic) effects of excessive alcohol use. How do these effects impact the health of the person overall? Why or why not do these effects change your personal view on alcohol?

Answer: Alcohol consumption is not good for health as it has many side effects as well as adverse effects on our body and mind. The alcohol consumption can be considered as if a person drinks 12 fluid ounces of beer near about five percent alcohol he consumed whereas one and one-half ounces of 80 vodka, rum, gin, then an estimated 40 percent alcohol has been consumed.

The short- term harmful effects of excessive alcohol use are:

1. Drowsiness: As the alcohol disrupts the brain functioning activity, it causes drowsiness.
2. Slurred speech: This is due to an imbalance in the activity of the brain which occurs due to excessive alcohol consumption as it reduce communication between brain and body.

The excessive consumption of alcohol causes the long term effects such as:

1. Liver damage: Long term exposure of the body to the alcohol causes liver damage. It decreases the functioning of the liver which indirectly affects other body systems.
2. Cancer: It is one of the most common diseases, lung cancer, liver cancer even breast cancer can occur due to excessive consumption of alcohol.

These effects of alcohol consumption cause hurdle in normal life functioning. People drinking alcohol and driving are at major risk of an accident. In one of the survey it has been found that in the year 2012 near about 12,000,00 accidents happened due to drinking and driving. Many of the diseases such as cancer etc. create life long treatment and abnormalities.
