WATER BORN DISEASES

• Diseases which are caused by pathogenic microorganism that are transmitted by using contaminated water resources.most common water born diseases are Typhoid fever,travellers diarrhea,cholera,salmonella,dysentery

CHOLERA

• cholera is a contagious disease cause severe watery diarrhea which can leads to dehydration and even death if untreated causative organism is vibrio cholera

SYMPTOMS

• Vomiting
• profuse watery diarrhea
• rapid heart rate
• dry mucus membrane
• thirst
• low blood pressure
• muscle cramps
• restless and irritability
• loss of skin elasticity

Symptoms may start in few hours to five days

MODE OF TRANSMISSION

The bacteria are spread through humans .oro- fecal route,a bite of contaminated food ,a sip of contaminated water cause infection. Cholera bacterium usually found in water or food sources contaminated with feaces, it spreads in places with inadequate water treatment,poor sanitation,inadequate hygiene

TREATMENT

REHYDRATION THERAPY:-restoration of lost fluid and minerals ,intravenous fluid administration,

ANTIBIOTIC TREATMENT:-reduces duration of illness

ZINC SUPPLIMENT:- zinc decreases and shorten the duration of diarrhea in children with cholera.
