Your floor is slow, you are cross trained, and you agree to scrub in and help. What factors could you consider when scrubbing in? Discuss the agents used, and other items for your wardrobe you might consider.
  • After surgery, Mrs. Johnson develops a MRSA infection at her wound site. How is this handled? Consider antibiotic treatment and wound cleaning and treatment. What kinds of antibiotics would be used? How can you be sure your antibiotic treatment will be effective? What precautions would her care team have to take? (5 points)
  • Mrs. Johnson healed up wonderfully. It is now time for the cleaning staff to come in and clean her room for the next patient and wash the linens. Describe some precautions and products that might be used to clean her room.

The factors to be considered while scrubbing is to assess the skin for any allergies know for the solutions. Environment, consent for the scrubbing, articles and equipments, personal protective equipments to prevent cross infection, infection control through sterile and aseptic techniques, waste disposal, functioning of the instruments used, site to be scrubbed to be exposed.

The agents required are:

* alcohol scrub

* betaine solution

* betaine scrub

* the personal protective agents

* instruments in the sterile pack

* check list of the instruments and other equipments

* guaze and cotton bins with different size accordingly

* extra sets of sterile packs.

The MRSa infection can be handled by:

* stressing on hand hygeine

* keep wounds covered and dispose bandage properly

* eliminating sharing of the personal items

* Stress clean facilities

* contact isolation

The antibiotics used for MRSa

* levofloxacin

* penicillin

*methicillin

* ceftrixone

* trimethoprim

The signs and symptoms would reduce if the antibiotic is acting effectively. The precautions :

* contact isolation

* monitoring for antibiotic resistance

* covering the wound with proper asepsis

* environment free of pathogens

* administering the antibiotics as per the prescription

The room must be fumigated completely to clean up the microorganisms and the equipment used to be completely sterilised and kept ready for the next patient.
