HEALTH EDUCATION TOPIC ON DIABETES:

Primary prevention is a prevention adapted to prevent the occurance of the disease through the health education to people.Health teachings by the health care facility helps the people to prevent the disease before occurance.

Rationale: Helps people to understand the causes of the diseases, clinical manifestation and prevention of diadetics.And this helps in prevention of diseases.

Secondary Prevention: Early detection through screening for the signs and symptoms of Diabetics through glucose tolerance tests, blood test.

Rationale: Early detection of the disease helps in early treatment of the disease and to prevent further complication.

Tertiary prevention: Rehabilitative services to be provided for patients who have developed complications because of diabetes.

Rationale: To prevent further complications of diabetes like retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy, diabetic ulcer leading to amputation of the limbs.

TARGET POPULATION:

The target population for the study would be individuals who are above the age of 35 yrs,who have family history of Diabetes.Organisations which are run for elderly patients or old age homes.Community population would be rural and urban village people with risk factors.

Test conducted prior to health education will help to analyse their level of understanding so accordingly Kurt Lewis Change model can be used.

  1. Unfreezing: To give the right knowledge of the specific objectives of diabetes,changing the old behaviour through proper communication.
  2. Changing: People here will gain new knowledge regarding diabetes and learn new behaviour and life style modification.
  3. Refreezing: Reinforcing and solidifying the teaching is important to bring about changes in relation to the development of positive health
