Chromosome abnormality refers to missing or mutation or excess of a DNA in a species causing abnormalities. The common chromosomal abnormality are Down's syndrome (Trisomy 21),Patau's syndrome (Trisomy 13),Edward's syndrome (Trisomy 18), Turner syndrome (Monosomy X)There are two types of chromosomal abnormality are reciprocal and Robersonian translocation

Some of tge he differences between the following chromosome abnormality are

Down syndrome

  • Autosomal chromosomal abnormality
  • One extra chromosome in 21st chromosome
  • Delayed physical growth
  • Mild to moderated intellectual level
  • The IQ is about 50 in an adult
  • Common
  • Life expectancy is 59 -60
  • Flat head
  • gap between first and second toe
  • Brownfield spots are present in iris of baby
  • Increased risk of cancer

Edward syndrome  

  • very rare
  • The baby can survive utmost to 1 year (life span 5 -15 days)
  • The babies will be of low birth weight
  • Will have a clenched hand
  • The shape of the head will not be uniform ,microcephaly
  • Webbing of second and third toe
  • Undescended testes
  • Severe developmental delay
