Answer #1

Solution:

13. a. MCV value = Hct / RBC X 1012 X 1000

MCV value = 34.7 / 4.29 X 1012 X 1000

= 80.88

Her MCV value is 80.88

b. Calculation of MCHC value:

MCHC value = Hb X 100 / Hct

= 12.2 X 100 / 34.7

= 35.1

Her MCHC value is 35.1

c. RBC are smaller and looks pale.

d. Yes. she is anemic.

e. Both the low hematocrit level and low hemoglobin level considered for the diagnosis of anemia. Low hematocrit level leads to a low level of hemoglobin and results in anemia. Normal hematocrit level is between 34.9 to 44.5 and normal hemoglobin level is between 12.5 to 15.5g/dL.

f. Pregnancy is one of the possible cause for this patient. In addition, poor intake of iron also leads to anemic condition.

g. Serum ferritin level and serum iron level helps to rule out the cause for her condition.
