Lubricant laxative are used to treat constipation as a short term cure.

It has mineral oil in it which lines the intestinal layer and prevents the stool from being dry and enhance smooth passage of stool. In simple the stool is watery in content.

It aides in retaining the water content in the stool to prevent the difficult to defecate

It cannot be used for long term because it has mineral oil which can interrupt The action of other drugs when consumed

It is not prescribed for young children and older adults

When a medication is taken orally It takes nearly 6 to 8 hours to work in case of a laxative,it is administered in the night time.

A suppository is placed in the rectum which acts immediately in 15 to 60 minutes.A glycerine suppository when inserted it makes the intestine to absorb water and increasing peristaltic movement
