An alternative therapy is generally used instead of conventional medical treatment. It is defined as any of various systems of healing or treating disease such as chiropractic, homeopathy, or faith healing which is not included in the traditional medical curricula.
Traditional alternative medicine includes the more mainstream and accepted forms of therapy, such as acupuncture, homeopathy, and Oriental practices. These therapies have been practiced for centuries worldwide. Traditional alternative medicine may include:

  • Acupuncture:

Acupuncture is the practice of penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles which are then activated through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner's hands or with electrical stimulation.
Acupuncture points stimulates the central nervous system which in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.

  • Ayurveda:

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. Its based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease. Ayurvedic medicine and an appropriate Ayurvedic diet can help treat inflammatory, hormonal, digestive and autoimmune conditions, including: Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety or depression, asthma, cancer, dementia, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), herpes, high blood pressure or cholesterol etc.,

Ayurvedic herbs, practices and recommendations, including yoga and meditation,are also helpful as a home remedy for acne, relieving chronic constipation , fighting chronic fatigue syndrome, reducing pain and lowering obesity risk.

  • Homeopathy :

    Homeopathy involves using extremely diluted natural substances to treat physical and mental health problems. Homeopathic remedies for stress, anxiety and depression has made the people to feel better.

  • Naturopathy:

Naturopathy is an art and science of healthy living and a drugless system of healing based on well founded philosophy. It has its own concept of health and disease and also principle of treatment. Naturopathy is a very old science.

Different modalities of Naturopathy are : Diet Therapy, Fasting Therapy, Mud Therapy, Hydrotherapy, MassoTherapy, Acupressure, Acupuncture, Air Therapy, Magnet Therapy.
The goal of naturopathic medicine is to treat the whole person that means mind, body, and spirit. It also aims to heal the root causes of an illness and not just to stop the symptoms.

Some of the advantages of Alternative therapies are :

  1. It treats the Actual Cause. One of the best advantages that alternative medicine offers is that it heals the body and is designed to actually treat the cause of the pain or disease that has occurred.
  2. When using alternative medicine, there is a drastic improvement in the quality of life a person has.
  3. Alternative medicine is a wide spectrum of therapies, and they are almost always considered to be much safer than mainstream medicine. Natural remedies are used to correct the problem.
  4. Alternative medicine allows more flexibility in treatment plans.
