The clinical relevance of Diabetes 1 & 2 are

• The type 1 cannot produce insulin so needs insulin administration from external to balance and maintain the glucose level in the blood.It usually occurs in infancy or before 30 years.The complications develop faster when insulin are not administered at the right time.The treatment option is only insulin.
• In type 2 ,the pancreas can produce insulin but not to the required amount to balance and maintain the glucose level In the blood.It is common after 40 years and if Asian descents it is expected at the age of 25.It is well controlled by diet ,regular exercise and if not controlled medication are prescribed. When oral hypoglycemic cannot control the sugar ,insulin are given in addition .
• Both are investigated by checking the fasting ,post prandial blood sugar.The other common tests are glucose tolerance test,HbA1C .
• The expected complications due to poor blood glucose control are neuropathy, nephropathy,retinopathy, micropathy and macropathy.
