Compare and contrast two change theories, and determine which theory makes the most sense for implementing your specific EBP project. Why? Has your mentor used either theory, and to what result?
The two change theory for EBP project is Lewin's change theory
and Kotter's change theory.
Lewin's 3 step theory model involves in unfreezing, changing and
refreezing.
Kotter's 8 step model involves establishing a sense of urgency,
creating a guiding coalition, create a change vision, communicate
the vision, broad-based action, short-term goal, make more changes
and changes in organizational culture.
Lewin's change theory provides a visual summary to change the idea
it expands and it makes field analysis which impacts the success or
failure of the decision.
Kotter's theory is an easy model to provide clear steps and it
focuses on preparing and accepting change based on the cultural
model.
Lewin's change theory is goal and plan oriented and it has negative
consequences in human feelings. this model makes resistance, it
involves everyone for effective analysis and if there is no full
participation, there will be a failure.
Kotter's theory take more time and it is patient oriented.
Lewin's force driving model makes the change as per patient
desired.
Kotter's change theory makes practitioner's involvement for quality
improvement and makes more sense implications EBP project, and it
is highly effective due to various follow-up to make a change in
the daily health care routine. It corrects a small problem in
difficult situations. It is the best model for bedside practice to
make patient satisfaction. It improves communication among patients
and health care providers for successful implementation of practice
change. Our nursing leaders used this theory for graduate nurses
for implementing communication between patients with the best
evidence-based practice. It makes more changes in patient health
outcomes and avoid minor errors and provide effective
management.
