* Calculation of gtts/min.

          Formula

             gtts/min = Volume(ml) /Time(min) * Drop factor (gtt/min).

    Here

      Calculation of volume.

          Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

   Ordered dose = 7 units/kg/day.

        Weight of the patient = 137 lb.

Convert lb to kg for calculation

      1 lb = 0.45 kg.

So

      Weight of the patient = 137 * 0.45

                                         = 62 kg.

   Desired dose = 7 * 62

                                = 434 units.

        Dose in hand = 100 units.

            Quantity = 99 ml.

As per above formula

         Volume(ml) of drug required = 434/100 * 99

                                                       = 4.34 * 99

                                                       = 429.6 ml

       Time (min) = 600 min ( 10 hrs).

              Drop factor = 60 gtts/ml.

    gtt/min should the patient receive = 429.6 / 600 * 60

                                                           = 0.716 * 60

                                                           = 42.96

                                                           = 43 gtts/min.
