124 pounds = x

x = 124 × 0.454 = 56.296 kilograms

Dose to be received= 18 units/kg/day

18 × 56.296 = 1013.328 units/day

To be delivered over 1 hour = 60 minutes

Available: 500 units = 97ml

1013.328 = y

y= 1013.328 × 97 /500 = 196.58ml

Formula:

gtts/min = total volume dose to be administered ÷ time in mins × drop factor

gtts/min = 196.58/60 × 10 = 32.76~ 33gtts/min

Therefore, the patient should receive 33 gtts/min dose.
