ANSWER.

* Calculation of ml/hr.

       Formula

           ml/hr = Total volume(ml) /Time(hr).

   Calculation of volume.

              Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

      Here

          Ordered dose = 6mcg/kg/min.

          Weight of the patient = 150 lbs.

    Convert lbs to kg for calculation

                  1 lbs = 0.45 kg.

    So

         Weight of the patient = 150 * 0.45

                                           = 68 kg.

            Desired dose (D) = 6 * 68

                                         = 408 mcg/min.

            Dose in hand (H) = 500 mg.

     Convert mg to mcg for calculation

                      1mg = 1000 mcg

       So

             Dose in hand (H) = 500000 mcg (500mg)

                  Quantity(Q) = 500 ml (0.5 L)

As per above formula

         Volume of drug required = D/H * Q

                                                  = 408/500000* 500

                                                  = 0.0008* 500

                                                  = 0.4 ml/min.

         Convert ml/min to ml/hr by multiplying with 60.

                        ml/hr = 0.4 * 60

                                 = 24 ml/hr.
