1. Maldistribution refer to either a surplus or a shortage of the type of physicians needed to maintain the health status pf a given population at an optimum level.

Geographic maldistribution: there is a lack PCPs in rural areas. Residents in theses areas are sicker, poorer than those in nonrural areas.

2. A midlevel practitioner that is able to examine patients, order diagnostic tests, and prescribe certain types of medications. Usually supervised by a physician but may work independently in some states

Allied Health

a broad category that includes services and professionals in many health related areas. Allied health professionals include technicians, assistants, therapists, and technologists.

Allied Health Professional

Someone who has received a certificate; associates, bachelors, or masters degree; doctoral level preparation; or post-baccalaureate training in a science related to health care and has responsibility for the delivery of health or related services.

Were established due to the fact that knowledge in health sciences grew and there wasn't enough time to acquire all the new information. Thus Allied health professionals serve as adjuncts to or as substitutes for physicians and nurses.

3. The development of health services closely follows populations trends, advances in research and technology, disease and illness trends, and changes in health care financing and delivery of services.
