Breast cancer is associated with abnormal genes. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the inherited genes that produce tumor on the breast. This can be inherited from mother or father. If the individual carries one nonfunctional copy of gene mutation, then there is a 50% chance of risk of developing breast cancer. That means one copy of an altered gene of BRCA is enough to develop breast cancer. The studies also show that 72% of women with BRCA1 inherited gene mutation and 69% of women with BRCA2 gene mutation develops breast cancer by the age of 80.
