Pathophysiology

The increase in body weight above the recommended BMI are due to various causes .The genetic and environment cause can contribute a lot to obesity.apA hormone present in the adipocytes called as Leptin is deficient or lacking skill lead to alteration in the neuroendocrine peptides ,which as a result will lead to increased intake and decreased energy expenditure.This is actually because of the storage of fats in excess , metabolic alterations of the body exhibiting signs and symptoms

Clinical manifestation

  • Over weight
  • Inability to do daily activities ,fatigue or tiredness
  • Increased appetite
  • Knee pain due to extreme weight of the body being carried by it
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Difficulty in breathing

Diagnostic criteria

  • BMI greater than 30kg/m²
  • Metabolic panel
  • Increased waist circumference
  • Increased triglyceride level
  • Reduced low density lipid
  • The fasting blood sugar is increased

Treatment

  • Diet (low calorie diet ,avoiding fast foods ,excess oils ,fats,eating regularly as per the schedule,etc )
  • Behaviour treatment with diet counseling
  • Exercise to induce energy expenditure
  • Medications to lower appetite
  • Surgical intervention by removing parts of the gastrointestinal tract and thus the patient eats in limited quantity
