The very first step of glucose breakdown is glycolysis which occurs in cytosol and is a 10 step process. In the process one phosphate group from ATP molecules is transferred to glucose for the phosphorylation. Total two step involves in phosphorylation and uses 2 ATP. The end product of complete process is two, 3 carbon compound known as pyruvate which is oxidized to acetyl CoA which enters into Krebs cycle.
