How might you provide evidence that DNA is the genetic material in mice? Design an experiment.
answer
Evidences that proved DNA is the genetic material-
Griffith used two strains of pneumococcus named Streptococcus pneumoniae, bacteria which infect mice .A type III-S (S-smooth) which was virulent.A type II-R (R-rough) strain which was nonvirulent. In the Griffth experiment, bacteria from the III-S strain were killed by application of heat, injected into mice-mice was killed. The injection of II-R strain didnot killed the mice alone but when their combination was added the mice developed a fatal infection and die.Griffith also isolated both live II-R and live III-S strains of pneumococcus from the blood of these dead mice.
conclusion by griffth- the type II-R had been "transformed" into the lethal III-S strain by a' transforming principle' that would be the part of the dead III-S strain bacteria.
2.The Avery-MacLeod-McCarty experiment was an experimental demonstration that showed DNA is the substance that causes bacterial transformation in the griffth's experiment. They found that when they pretreated the heat-killed S-strain with either a protease (that degrades proteins) or with DNAase that degrades DNA. Their idea was that if the transforming factor was a protein, then treatment of the heat-killed S-strain with a protease would destroy the protein and the transformation will be inhibited .Treatment with DNAase will have no effect on the transformation process. But if DNA were the genetic material, then the opposite would be true. In their experiments, Avery found that protease did not affect the ability of dead S-strain to transform into R strain but DNAase did. They concluded that the genetic material in transformation is most likely DNA.Thus DNA as a genetic material is concluded.
3. The ability of the phages is to take over and control the metabolic aciivity of the bacteria to produce new phages. The radioactive labeling was done with S35 and P.The protease and DNAases were added in the experimental tube. The proteases didnot had any effect on the transforming principle but DNAses did. Therefore DNA as a genetic material was confirmed.

The Hershey - Chase experiment provided strong evidence for which of the following? DNA is composed of four different nitrogenous bases. Genetic trait can be transferred between different bacterial strains. Nucleic acids are the hereditary material of viruses. Proteins are the hereditary material of viruses.
DNA is the genetic (hereditary) material found in all living things on planet Earth. The genetic code is the same for everything from bacteria to plants and humans; this is evidence that the great diversity of life evolved from a ________.
How do Agouti mice show transgenerational epigenetic inheritance and how does this provide evidence for evolution. Emphasise on how this effects Darwinian selection.
NeuroBiology You are a genetic engineer working with mice. You figure out how to delete the genes for the dopamine transporter DAT and the GABA transporter GAT specifically in neurons while leaving the genes intact elsewhere. How will Dopaminergic and GABAergic transmission be altered in your mice?
How does the cloning of mammals provide evidence for genetic equivalence? The ability to clone animals shows that differences in the pattern of chromatin condensation affect the phenotype of the offspring. A cloned animal contains different genetic material than the donor animal, even though its phenotype is exactly the same as the donor animal. O Because a cloned animal is derived from a single cell, it means that all the genetic information needed to create the organism during development is...
The Hershey Chase experiment using radioactively labeled bacteriophage to infect bacteria proved that DNA was the genetic material. If you were reviewing those experimental results, which of the following would provide evidence that DNA was the genetic material? Select all that would apply. a) The DNA was localized in the cytoplasm of the bacterial cell, which is the same site that the bacterial chromosome is located. b) Radioactively labeled viral proteins were only found outside the cell and the viral...
1. When Griffiths performed his experiment to show that genetic material can be transferred from one bacterium to another, why did he use a living type IIR strain and a heat-killed type IIIS strain? What type of bacterium was recovered from the dead mice after the mixture of living type IIR and heat-killed type IIIS was injected? Also, specifically include a discussion on mutation versus transformation to change the characteristics of a bacterium. 2. Describe the process by which tRNAs...
Please answer the question and provide a brief justification Suppose 60 mice with high genetic susceptibiltiy to developing a specific type of tumor are randomly assigned to either a low calorie diet or a high calorie diet. After a month, the mice on the low calorie diet have developed statistically significantly fewer tumors (at 0.05 level) than mice of the high calorie diet. Can we conclude ihat the dicis camd the rcduction in Why or why noi?
A gene editing technology called CRISPR-Cas9 uses cellular machinery to change the cell's genetic material. How might this technology be useful in treating diseases like cancer? A. CRISPR-Cas9 could be a substitute for chemotherapy. B. CRISPR-Cas9 could remove from patients the genetic mutations that cause a specific cancer before the cancer begins. C. CRISPR-Cas9 could remove any DNA damage caused by smoking. D. CRISPR-Cas9 could act as an antioxidant in a person's cells, removing toxins that might otherwise damage DNA.
