Evolution and trends of information systems (IS) infrastructure:

Information systems infrastructure has evolved over the last twenty years in line with the development of information technology as well as its applications. We have seen the evolution of computers from mainframes to personal computers and then to mobile computing.

The evolution and trends of information systems infrastructure has shown functional advances in the domain of e-commerce, knowledge management etc. The evolution also witnessed object oriented programming language, new architectural systems, and programming structure.

From the period 1980 to 2001 two key evolutionary trends have been seen:

1)    The primary trend is system design which includes DSS and EIS (1980-1991)

2)    The secondary trend is Technology infrastructure and organization demand for the application (After 1993).

In the 1950s IS was used mainly for electronic data processing (EDP). The period of 1960-1970 saw a shift from EDP to MIS (management information system). The next period from 1970 to 1980 saw the advent of personal computers (PC) and decision support system (DSS). The third period from 1980 to 1990 saw IS being used for executive information system (EIS). The fourth period from 1990 to 2000 saw IS evolving for artificial intelligence (AI), expert system (ES), and knowledge management system (KMS). Lastly the fifth period from the year 2000 onwards saw evolution of IS for applications in e-commerce and cloud computing.

Topics of the two articles are relevant to the topic of this question as the topic of the two articles show that the same subject matter will be discussed in the article as has been proposed in this question. The similarity of the subject domain is demonstrated by the topics.

The information that was relevant was the information with regards to evolution of IS in different time periods and the information with regards to primary trend and secondary trend.
