Answer #1

Answer:

It is better to use Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)” or “scanning electron microscopy (SEM)” to resolve structures that electron microscopy has indicated are 55 nm apart in the XY dimension.

The resolution of Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is about nearly 0.1 nm whereas resolution of SEM is about 2 nm.

The resolving power of a microscope: It is defined as the smallest distance that is apart followed by the wavelength of incident light on the sample associated with quality of lenses.

Rule of thumb, the resolution of the light microscope is 200nm in X or Y and in Z dimension it is about 700nm

To resolve details of a cell using an ordinary microscope, you must use a wavelength that is about the same size, or smaller, than the details of the cell you want to observe. Suppose you wamt to be able to see the ribosomes, which are about 22.0 nm in diameter. If you use an electron microscope, what is the minimum kinetic energy of the electrons? eV

Quantum confinement becomes important at small dimensions. In one dimension, quantum confinement becomes important at Δx = (h^2/m*kBT)1/2 where m* is either the mass of the electron or mass of the hole. (a) Calculate the dimension at which quantum confinement becomes significant for n-type and p-type gallium arsenide at 300 K. (b) How many layers are needed for quantum confinement of electrons or holes? Information you might want to use: Gallium arsenide has an electron effective mass of 0.067 me...

You want to coat a pane of glass that has an index of refraction of 1.54 with a 195-nm-thick layer of material that has an index of refraction greater than that of the glass. The purpose of the coating is to cancel light reflected off the top of the film having a wavelength (in air) of 540 nm. The coating material is very expensive, so you want to use the thinnest possible layer. 1) What should be the index of...
