Answer #1

Yes, one receptor can bind to more than one antigen and both of the antigens could either generate the same response in the cell or a different response alltogether.

Since receptors are almost always a protein, it can have more than one active site where the antigen could bind and generate the general or site specific response.

A single transmembrane hormone receptor associates into a dimer upon binding to the hormone on the exterior of the cell. The cytoplasmic domains of the receptor dimer have tyrosine kinase activity and each subunit of the dimer phosphorylates tyrosines in the other subunit. These phosphorylated tyrosines then serve as substrates for the binding of a membrane associated protein Xm. Upon the binding of Xm to the phosphorylated transmembrane dimer, the kinase activity of the dimer also phosphorylates the Xm protein...

1.(a)The Wnt signal is involved in regulating the proliferation of many stem cell populations in humans. Wnt is an amino acid polymer. It binds to a cell surface receptor complex that includes the Frizzled receptor and the LRP receptor. When unbound the receptor is inactive. When the receptor is inactive a protein, beta-catenin, is bound by a cytoplasmic complex and destroyed. When the receptor is activated the recptor will bind a member of the cytoplasmic complex (Axin) and beta-catenin is...
