In the early time,even before the humanwhen there is dinosaurs ,there was twice the amount of oxygen in the environment because of all the plant life that grew making huge animals. Conversely such was not the case for plant

Reason that the mosses were not the size of trees was because of lignin. As plants began to grow taller to compete for light, they could only reach appox-4 feet, because that was the limitation to where they could support themselves and where they could get nutrients to. Mosses were even worse, but they had different advantages

So that there is no Moss was never the size of the trees. It was almost the same size as it has always been One more reason is that they lack vascular tissue, so hydraulically, they would have great trouble standing tall.
