Sensory buckets encourage the to develop cognitive skills and this is specially remarkable with children as well as adults. When our senses are engaged, it is the best way to learn as well as retain information. The cognitive development includes short term and long term memory, auditory and visual processing, problem solving, decision making, logic and reasoning. It happens that whatever we have sensed earlier say smell of something, a song sung by someone is sensed in such a way if we smell or hear the same even after days, our brain still remembers that and could easily recognise that. When children in playschools are giving different toys to play with , they also develop skills such as rearraging the toys, building blocks of various shapes, etc. which makes them use their brains to analyse the way it has to be done.Motor skills are also enhanced through this and this includes eye and muscle coordination. For example while playing with ball, running, walking, throwing ball, water play mucles of the body are engaged. When children are engaged in activities such astying their own shoe laces, mixing different things, turning pages of book they enhance their motor skills and cordination between eye and hands is also enhanced.
